One of the weekly heroes for this week, as selected by UpRights News staff, is Santa Cruz Public Library, for not only being a clearinghouse for non-profit organizations serving the Santa Cruz community in a comprehensive manner, but actually hosting office hours at the Santa Cruz Public Library, where the community can go to receive the benefit of all sorts of services, under the leadership of Jesse Silva.
Jesse has been responsible for managing the large number of non-profit organizations operating out of the library, serving the community, who are dedicated to helping the community and veterans access legal services, housing, drug dependency, and/or mental health issues.
Many of these services can also be elucidated by calling and visiting the library in downtown Santa Cruz, one of 10 branches, or by visiting them online at https://www.santacruzpl.org/services/#Public%20Services.
The following link provides information to other non-profits who would like to join this community effort, https://www.santacruzpl.org/meeting-rooms/.
This week, UpRights News also reconnected with one of our former weekly heroes, at the Diversity Center, in Santa Cruz, who is under new leadership, and who are also an excellent community resource for different non-profits and for different community needs, and who take the time, along with legal student volunteers, to help those facing difficult situations, find resources to troubleshoot the same.
UpRights News had formerly discussed with the Diversity Center's leadership the need to bring all of the different non-profit service providers under one roof in the Santa Cruz area, which has become a haven for non-profits that serve all sorts of communities, including immigration services support, human trafficking support, teen support, LGBTQA+ support, environmentalist support, in what mirrors what Berkeley, CA, used to be known for, having since shifted to the human activist community of Santa Cruz, which still has that good old hippy vibe, as a walk down lively Pacific Avenue will allow anyone to experience, with all sorts of interesting shops, restaurants, community services, live musicians, used music and clothes stores, UC Santa Cruz students, pets, police officers, and a progressive community coming together in a beautiful manner, with the occasional smell of legalized marijuana lingering in the air, towards the beach and pier end of Pacific Avenue.
To contact Jesse Silva, and/or other SCPL staff to join this community effort, please email or call using the contact information below during their regular office hours.
